Welcome to NWES Academy Summer Camp!

NWES Academy offers camps and classes for students from Pre-K to 12th grade.  Our classes and activities are:

  • Interesting, challenging, and mentally stimulating
  • Creative, imaginative, and artistic
  • Appreciative of the world
  • Physically and recreationally active
  • Supportive of each child’s social and emotional needs


  • June 24 through August 31, 2019
  • 9:00am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday
  • Extended care available from 8:00am to 9:00am and from 5:00pm to 6:30pm
  • Pre-K and K (ages 4 – 6): English, Math, Chinese; Crafts, and Games
  • Ages 5 and up: English, Math, Chinese, Crafts, Chess, Lego, Games, Art, and Music.

Learning Camp Weekly Tuition

Full day (9:00 am - 4:00 pm): $200

Half day (up to 4 hours): $110

Before-camp (8:00 - 9:00 am): $10

After-camp (4:00 – 6:30 pm): $25

Learning Camp Drop-in daily tuition

Full day: $60

Half day: $40


(entering grades K and higher)

Students will be screened to discover strengths and areas for improvement.  Based on the screening results, enrichment will be provided in areas of verbal, quantitative and nonverbal areas for improvement. Motivated learning is conducted with games, puzzles, crafts, coloring and other hands-on brain teasers and exercises to help

  • develop a sound learning habit,
  • build a solid foundation in reading, math, and critical thinking,
  • discover talents and potentials, and
  • get ready for gifted screening tests that land your child into the Gifted Program.

Summer Schedule:

K Program (entering K): M-F: 9:00am – noon / 8 Saturdays from 7/13 to 8/31

First Grade Program (entering the first grade): M-F:1pm – 4pm / 8 Saturdays from 7/13 to 8/31

Second Grade Program (for those entering the second grade in the fall): 4:30pm-7:00pm

Students in Grades 3 and above can be individually scheduled.

Learning sessions are modular and students can enroll for one or more weeks.

ART and Music (entering K or above)


  • develope skills of creating beautiful images using pencils, pastels, and watercolors
  • improve the participants’ hand-eye coordination, fine motor skills, and understanding of proportions, spatial relations, and sizes of objects
  • learn how to plan the layout of their creations and how to use lines, shapes, colors, and shading to reflect their vision and express their feelings


  • listen to the best classical music pieces for children
  • develop singing, rhythmic, listening, and performing skills
  • practice their rhythm skills with various note values within different time signatures
  • sing patriotic American songs, traditional favorites, and some classical choral music


This class will focus on letting out the creative side of students, by giving them a chance to write whatever they want. Students will learn how to effectively construct short stories, and basic forms of poetry. In this class, we will explore many aspects of the English language. Besides grammar and vocabulary-building, many types of writing will be introduced. Every lesson will include a new project and a new language adventure!

Students will be grouped by age and grade levels: elementary (grades 3-5), middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12).


The ESL program covers reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, and conversational activities to develop competence in English.  Students learn about American culture, family life, ethnic diversity, education and media.  Those planning to attend schools in the US will also develop their classroom language skills, academic writing, classroom participation and note-taking strategies.

Book Camp Elementary School Students

  • Each student share reading experience / feedback of the book of his/her choice;
  • Look at the book from 6 areas: reading, listening, talking, viewing, visual, and writing;
  • Work on the 2 (compliments) + 2 (suggestions / recommendations) feedback tool
  • Take the book as a whole, discuss as a class and work on a book review as a class and independently.

Book Camp for Middle and High School Students

  • Work on classical plays by Shakespeare, Oscar Wilde, Authur Miller, among others;
  • Read, participate on the parts and act out the characters;
  • Discuss and write on the literature;
  • Form opinions, make arguments and reach agreements.


Do you think that math is nothing but plus, minus, multiply, and divide? Math is amazing! Come and explore topics like bases, probability, permutations, decimals, fractions, or functions.

The math enrichment program focuses on deepening students’ understanding of number sense, place value, fraction and rational numbers.  Aligned with the national common core standards the program allows students to experience mathematics through project-based learning and hands-on activities that engage children with the numbers that surround them in their day-to-day lives.

Classes are designed to suit different levels of math skills.


(entering grades 4 and higher)

  • To introduce important Mathematical concepts
  • To teach major strategies for problem solving
  • To develop Mathematical flexibility and creativity in solving problems
  • To provide for the satisfaction, joy, and thrill of meeting challenges


This workshop will prepare you to approach SAT test with confidence and ease. You will

  • learn time management strategies,
  • refine your study skills, and
  • gain familiarity with all sections of the SAT: Math, Critical Reading, Writing, and the Essay.


  • Show up for the first class with an essay
  • Meet 3 hours daily
  • Provide feedback and critique to improve the essays.
